Diary of a post – box … (We’ll keep you posted)
DAY 1
Saved from scrap I have now joined my new family – Roses & Garters, My new dad says I can meet my new mum at tea-time when she comes home & that she will be really pleased to see me. – But I’m not so sure as I am sat on the dining room table with nothing under my bum …
DAY 2 (my late post)
I was born at the ‘Carron’ Company in Stirlingshire, Scotland & went out to work (Between 1936 – 1952) for somebody called George V.I. I retired in 1980 when I saw & heard the last post & have been rusting in peace ever since.
DAY 3 (post & on a Sunday too)
After a good night’s rest I’m ready for a brand new day … My new dad says that I’m to go to hospital for a bit of TLC, I am now looking forward to having a shiny new coat of paint.I wonder what colour I will be … I bet it’s going to be a surprise having been a red post-box all these years…Ooooohh I can’t wait I’m so excited …
DAY 4 (who’d believe it post on a bank holiday)
I’m really excited today as I have just spotted a tin of paint on the table next to me. Trouble is I can’t see the label – I hope its luminous green or maybe fuchsia. I hope its fuchsia – I’ve spent all these years trying to sit in the sunshine fading to fuchsia …
Inside on a piece of string dad found my keys & gave my lock a little squirt of oil & I still lock.
Post-box-relaxing-on-a-bank-holiday with a glass of wine & a fag, in the sunshine …
DAY 5 (must have been a special delivery)
Today my new dad attacked me with some sand-paper – I wasn’t sure about this at first but after a while you kind of get used to it & sometimes it even tickles a bit… OMG I don’t believe this, he’s taken me down to bare flesh in places …
Dr. Mark has not given me a timescale for a full recovery – but I am hoping to be back to full health very shortly.
DAY 6 (2nd delivery at best)
Well there’s a novelty, why am I going to die of not surprise. Bl**dy Post Office Red – Oh brilliant just what I’ve always dreamed of… That’s really captured my imagination & sent me into a state of ecstasy …
DAY 7 (No post – just junk mail)
I have had another coat today & am feeling a bit more me again!!
Dr. Mark says that I’m looking much better & will be up & about really soon.
Dr. Mark has spent the evening touching me up – He has assured me that he has taken the Hippopotamus Oath & also has a tutu from a university – (I’m not convinced he’s a real doctor)
DAY 8 (1st class delivery)
Actually now it’s done & I’ve seen myself in the mirror I have to say that I do look very smart & I’m really pleased with the ‘new look’ me … Ready for my new lease of life as a Wedding Card Post Box …
Dad says that if people like they can borrow me for the week-end & I can get to go to lots of nice weddings.
The ‘old meanie’ said that I wasn’t allowed to join in the dancing … I’m only allowed to sit on the present table & watch…!! But he did say that I can be decorated to match the wedding colours… & Personalised – So that I won’t feel left out…!!
DAY 9 (signed for …)
Dad has given me my own diary so that I can keep up with my hectic social life … As I am hoping that I will get invited out lots & make loads of new friends, as I have been very lonely & neglected for so long & hope to make up for lost time …
They say life starts at 75 (if you’re a Wedding Card Post-Box that is) … ‘Party on Dude’ …
